Norwich close to completing loan deal for Chelsea defender
Sky Bet Championship side Norwich City are close to completing a loan deal for young Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter, according to Pink Un.
The Canaries have been keeping tabs on the England Under-20 world champion since realising that young Arsenal defender Krystian Bielik may be more heavily involved with the Gunners’ first team this season since impressing on the London side’s tour of Asia.
So Daniel Farke’s attention is now on the 19-year-old following reports in The Mirror that Chelsea are allowing their young stars to experience loan spells away from Stamford Bridge, on the basis that their young players are given regular first team action.
The Norfolk side have already made eight additions this summer, including two defenders as Christoph Zimmermann and Marcel Franke moved to Carrow Road. But Timm Klose’s injury means that Farke is now looking at reinforcements at the back.
Clarke-Salter’s future has been regularly spoken about at Chelsea, including when John Terry said he saw the young defender as his long-term replacement at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking in April 2016, the former England international said: “Jake has a great attitude. I remember watching him a couple of years ago being in control of the game and a really vocal player. He reminds me a bit of myself.
“[Jake] is doing great and I hope he goes on to take my position and get in the first team. It was great for him to make his debut.
“I was disappointed I wasn’t there to support him because I missed the game [through injury]. But watching it from home, I was delighted.”
