Norwich City winger leaves club and signs for Newcastle United
Norwich City have sold Jacob Murphy to Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee as confirmed by the club website.
The 22-year-old winger came through the famed Norwich academy and showed that going out on loan a lot doesn’t mean that you will be spinning your wheels for the rest of your career. He ended up going out on loan to six different clubs including Coventry City, Colchester United and Blackpool before breaking into the Norwich first team. And when he did, he made sure to make the fans know how good he is as he was one of the club’s best performers last season despite their disappointing season.
But with the club changing a lot after Daniel Farke came in to be their head coach and Murphy seemingly being too good for this league, a move away was rumoured a lot. And finally those rumours were confirmed as Newcastle signed him for an undisclosed fee following their promotion back to the Premier League.
Following his move to Newcastle, Murphy told their club website: “It was a childhood dream of mine to represent Newcastle and the opportunity is now here. I can’t wait to get started.”
His new head coach Rafa Benitez added: “He’s a young and talented player and hopefully he can develop even more here.”
“We hope he can show us the passion, commitment and ability that he showed in the Championship last season.”
Norwich were able to cope without Murphy last night when they beat German side Duisburg 2-0 in a pre-season friendly.
