Middlesbrough eyeing up Premier League goalkeeper

According to a report from the Northern Echo, Middlesbrough are interested in signing Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow this summer.

Darlow started out his career in 1998 with Aston Villa, aged just 8, and stayed and developed in the youth ranks there for 8 years, before being released at the age of sixteen, and moving to the Nottingham Forest youth set up in 2006.

He thrived at the academy in Nottingham, and after just 4 years in the youth set up, he progressed up to the first team at the City Ground, aged just 20.

The now 26-year-old had three loan spells in his time at Forest, going out to Newport County in 2012, and Walsall on two separate spells in 2012 and 2013, but only made a combination of 17 appearances, and returned to his parent club after his spell with Walsall, and began to feature for Forest.

He made 106 appearances for Forest before being snapped up by Newcastle United in 2014, along with teammate Jamaal Lascelles, but both were sent back out on loan to Forest for the 2014-15 season before going to St James’ Park for the 2015/16 season.

Since his arrival in the North East, the Englishman has made 49 appearances for ‘The Magpies’ and was a huge part of the squad that won promotion from the Championship last season, keeping a total of thirteen clean sheets.

There is no doubt that Boro are in need of a goalkeeper, as Victor Valdes and Brad Guzan have both left the club, and Darlow, in my opinion, would be a very credible signing.

He is very experienced not only in English football, but particularly in the Championship, and could be just what Middlesbrough need to push for a return to the Premier League.
