Robertson, Liverpool enter negotiations for Hull City defender

Liverpool enter negotiations for Hull City defender

Liverpool have begun talks with Hull City over the transfer of Andy Robertson, according to Sky Sports News HQ sources.

The 23-year-old moved to the KCOM Stadium in 2014 for a fee believed to be just under £3 million and made an impressive 24 appearances in his debut Premier League season. Robertson quickly asserted himself as a vital player for the Tigers over the next two campaigns and accumulated 115 appearances during his time at Hull.

Following the club’s relegation to the Championship last term, transfer rumours have been looming over the  future of the defender. The72 reported Liverpool’s interest in Robertson, but it is now broadcasted by Sky Sports News that the Reds have taken the extra step and begun negotiations with Hull City.

Although Sky Sports have not reported the price tag, the fee will be of interest to both parties. Liverpool have shown they are not afraid to splash their cash with the £36.9 million signing of Roma star Mo Salah, while new Tigers boss Leonid Slutsky is wanting to transform his current squad and would no doubt want to claim as much capital as possible to add to his transfer fund for the summer. The Russian has been extremely active since joining the Championship club, with 10 players leaving his team.

The fee is believed to be around £8 million, according to the Guardian.

The move will come as no surprise to fans of either club, but the step up to negotiations mean the completion of the transfer is nearing. Sky Sports claim the full-back has returned to the UK from his current employer’s pre-season tour to finalise his future.

Hull began a their pre-season friendlies with a disappointing 2-1 loss against Oxford United last week, and will be hoping to improve on Tuesday as they take on League One side Bristol Rovers in Portugal.
