Trio could rival Boro in race for Forest goal machine

English Premier League trio Burnley, Huddersfield Town and Watford could all up their interest in signing Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga according to the Nottingham Post.

The 24-year-old Zaire born hotshot looks set to leave The Reds after three years of service at The City Ground in which he has scored 30 goals in 69 appearances for the club.

Sky Bet Championship club Middlesbrough are thought to be the favourites to land the player with Boro set to pay a transfer fee of around £14 million to sign the striker while Lancashire club Burnley are willing to offer £8 million to Forest for Assombalonga’s services.

With The Clarets’ potential offer falling way short of rivals Middlesbrough’s valuation of the player, it is thought that Burnley will look to increase their starting bid for the forward and it is believed that both Huddersfield Town and Watford could also join the race for Assombalonga as competition for the Forest star heats up.

The striker’s career has been blighted by injury in recent years however Assombalonga’s quality was there for all to see as he weighed in with a crucial brace on the final day of last season as Forest avoided relegation to Sky Bet League One with a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town.

Assombalonga is one of the most exciting talents in the Sky Bet Championship but it is unknown whether the player will still be playing at that level of football in the coming season or scoring goals in the English Premier League.
