Italian defender rejects Serie A to join Bristol City

Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City have today announced the signing of defender Eros Pisano from Hellas Verona. The 30-year-old Italian has just celebrated winning promotion with Verona into Serie A, where he regularly featured in their starting eleven.

The right back has spent his entire career in his homeland so far, playing for the likes of Palermo and Genoa as well. With Mark Little leaving the club this summer to join Bolton Wanderers, this was certainly an area that needed strengthening at Ashton Gate. Head coach Lee Johnson will therefore be delighted to get Pisano on a two-year deal.

Speaking on the news of his first signing of the summer, Johnson gave a brief description to fans as to the type of player they’ve recruited, as well as providing some insiders into the qualities which attracted him to the player in the first place,

“Eros brings with him a winning mentality, having just won promotion with Verona. He’s a tough cookie and that’s what we’re after in that position; resilience and strength to go along with the good young players – Zak Vyner and Taylor Moore – already competing in that place.

“He’s strong physically, 6ft 1in tall and will add goals to us as well. It’s great to have a big full back. His style is aggressive but he’s also very athletic. He’s competent on the ball, using it well and gets up and down the right side.”

Pisano made 25 appearances for Verona as they won promotion back into the top flight of Italian football. This therefore is seen as something of a coup for Bristol City, given that the player has turned his back on playing in Serie A to join the Robins.
