Leeds first-team coach issues parting message to fans

James Beattie has taken to Twitter to post a heartfelt parting message to all at Leeds United as he heads for the exit door at Elland Road.

The former professional footballer turned first-team coach took to Twitter this afternoon to post this:

It was confirmed yesterday that Beattie would be leaving the West Yorkshire club in favour of a switch to Middlesbrough with former Leeds gaffer Garry Monk.

Beattie joined Leeds United as first-team coach back in July 2016, joining up with Garry Monk and Pep Clotet after they all departed from Swansea City. Beattie has been a pivotal part of Leeds’ backroom team in his time at the club and it’s been said he should be partly to thank for the goalscoring exploits of talisman Chris Wood last season. Monk, Clotet, Beattie and the rest of Leeds’ staff took their side to a seventh placed finish in the Championship last season, just narrowly missing out on the play-offs. This ultimately saw the back of Monk and it comes with no real surprise that Beattie has followed Monk in a move to the Riverside.

Beattie himself enjoyed an illustrious career mainly played at Premier League level. His career spanning almost 20 years saw him bag 141 goals in 498 appearances in all competitions, scoring timeless important goals for the sides he was playing for.

On joining Boro, Beattie seems happy and upbeat for the challenges that lie ahead:

With the new Championship season fast approaching, Beattie will now join up with Garry Monk at Boro and will be aiming to play a pivotal part in preparing their squad for when the first game of the season comes.

Alongside Monk, Beattie will be hoping to go one better than they did with Leeds last season. If Boro are to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking then there’s no doubt that Beattie will have a big contribution to make in orchestrating this.
