Aston Villa close to completing first transfer of the summer

Aston Villa are close to making Hull City’s Ahmed Elmohamady their first signing of the summer according to a report from Page 52 of the 21st June print edition of The Sun.

The Villains are coming off the back of what was a very disappointing season for them as after investing a lot of money into the squad last summer, they failed to challenge for promotion and ended up being stuck in mid-table. Steve Bruce became their head coach during the season and while he wasn’t able to massively change their fortunes, only stabilise them and stop the team dropping further down the Sky Bet Championship table, he is now looking to get the West Midlands side promoted.

This means changing the team once again and Bruce is looking to make a familiar face his first signing of the summer. He is close to completing a deal that will bring Ahmed Elmohamady to Villa Park, a player he first signed for Sunderland before also taking him to Hull City, where he still is. While the 29-year-old wing back, who can play as a full-back or as a winger, could be part of the Tigers attempt to get back into the Premier League, the chance to reunite with his former manager seems too much to resist as this report indicates that negotiations are going very well.

Of course this deal, expected to be worth around the £3m mark, will only be the first as many as Villa need new players to make sure they are at the right end of the Championship table this time around.
