3 potential upsets in Round One of the Carabao Cup

The first round draw for the newly renamed Carabao Cup was made earlier today. Here we look at three teams which could potentially cause an upset in their first round tie.

Coventry City at home to Blackburn Rovers

Coventry City endured a torrid 2016/17 season as they finished 23rd in League One and were relegated to League Two. However under Mark Robins there’s been a new sense of optimism around both fans and the club generally. Had he entered the manager’s job at the Ricoh sooner, some fans seem to feel that their beloved Sky Blues could’ve avoided the dreaded drop. Robins has brought in several new faces over the Summer already and City seem to be assembling a squad that could seriously challenge in England’s fourth tier in the upcoming 2017/18 season.

Blackburn also experienced a tough season, being relegated from the Championship on the final day of the season. Like at Coventry, turmoil off the pitch affected results on the pitch and this turmoil between the club’s fans and owners shows no sign of stopping any time soon at Ewood Park.

In front of the Ricoh Arena and the Sky Blues faithful with their new-found positivity, an upset could very much be on the cards.
