New favourite in race to sign Hull City defender

Leicester City are the new favourites to sign Hull City defender Harry Maguire, with their odds being slashed to 6/4 to sign the 24-year-old with Sky Bet.

Maguire made a name for himself as the shining light of what was, on the whole, a disappointing season for Hull City, who did better than most predicted, whilst still failing to beat the drop.

The blow of losing manager Marco Silva to Watford is unlikely to be softened when star defender Harry Maguire inevitably departs the club too this summer.

Hull lost Robert Snodgrass and Jake Livermore to West Ham and West Brom respectively in the January transfer window, and it seems they will be raided again this summer.

Winger Kamil Grosicki could well attract Premier League interest, and Sam Clucas, who was the breakthrough talent of Hull’s promotion winning season, will be in high demand, but is Maguire who looks most likely to depart the KCom this summer.

The 24-year-old towering centre-half joined the club from Sheffield United where he made over 134 appearances, and after spending the second half of the 2014/15 season out on loan with Wigan Athletic, established himself in the Hull first team.

Leicester have risen above previous favourites Spurs (9/4), as well as Everton (7/1), Newcastle (7/1) and Watford (10/1) in the betting order to sign Maguire.

Talks of an England call-up earlier in the season indicate just how talented Maguire is, and it’s almost impossible to envisage a scenario in which he is a Hull City player come the start of the season.
