Hull City eyeing move for Scottish international defender

Hull City are understood to be interested in signing Scottish international Charlie Mulgrew, according to Daily Mail.

The 31-year old defender is considering his position following relegation to League One with Blackburn Rivers, and the Tigers are said to be keen on his signature.

The former-Celtic man is being touted as a possible replacement for Curtis Davies, who departed Hull City earlier this week to join Derby County.

The club appointed former Russia and CSKA Moscow manager Leonid Slutsky as their head coach yesterday, with movement in the transfer market likely to begin next week.

Mulgrew is also said to be on the radar of fellow relegated club Middlesbrough, who themselves have just appointed a new coach in the form of Garry Monk.

Boro are expected to lose Ben Gibson in the coming weeks and Mulgrew would be a fine replacement.

Mulgrew has 26 caps for Scotland and is currently preparing for their game with England tonight in the World Cup Qualifier at Hampen Park.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Mulgrew said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Blackburn but it’s been very hard to take to go down with 51 points.

“I don’t know what will happen next but I’d be happy to stay in the Championship if that’s what transpires. I feel it’s a league that suited me and I’ve felt comfortable in it. I’ve got no regrets coming down south to play.”
