Ex-Malaga and Real Madrid manager backed into running for Leeds job

Ex-Malaga, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos has been backed into second favourite to become Leeds United manager, according to Sky Bet.

The 62-year-old is currently 3/1 in the market for next Leeds boss, having previously not been a part of the running on bookmakers’ lists.

Ramos’ last appointment was at Spanish side Malaga, winning five, drawing six and losing seven in 18 games in charge of the club.

Previous to that, Ramos had a lengthy spell at Ukranian outfit Dnipro, winning 80 of his 139 games at the helm.

Alongside Malaga and Dnipro, the Spaniard has also managed at Real Madrid in 2008, whilst he was in charge of Premier League outfit Spurs the year before.

In his career, Ramos has won two UEFA Cups, the League Cup in England, the UEFA Supercup, the Spanish Cup and the Spanish Supercup.

Despite Ramos entering the market as second favourite, Assistant Head Coach Pep Clotet remains the favourite to takeover at Elland Road.

Earlier this morning, The72 reported that the odds on Clotet being given the job were heavily reduced from 25/1 to 7/2.

Now, Clotet is clear favourite at 4/6, whilst Aitor Karanka, who was previously backed for the position, has drifted out to 3/1 from 1/4.

The 40-year-old joined the Whites shortly after Garry Monk’s appointment as Head Coach last summer, taking up the role as Monk’s right-hand man.

Clotet has enjoyed spells as a coach in both Sweden and Spain before he joined the backroom staff at Premier League outfit Swansea City.

Whilst Monk departed the club recently, it is understood that Clotet and coach James Beattie are still at the club and could be involved in some capacity in the future.

Karanka has been the constant favourite in the market until today, with Claudio Ranieri and Alan Pardew two names who were also linked with the position.
