Millwall are in talks in to sign Burton Albion captain John Mousinho according to a report from the News Shopper.
The 31-year-old midfielder is a favourite at the Pirelli Stadium and was key as the Brewers managed to shock everyone by avoiding relegation from the Sky Bet Championship. However while Burton would like to keep one of their star men, Mousinho is out of contract this summer and while the Staffordshire club are currently in talks with him, he may decide to head elsewhere. And one of Burton’s new Championship rivals are offering him the chance to leave them.
This report suggests that the recently promoted Millwall are in talks with Mousinho and trying to tempt him to leave Burton. With the midfielder helping to lead a team to safety last season, Millwall hope that he would be able to do the same with them and make sure that the club’s stay in the Championship isn’t a temporary one. Millwall are yet to offer Mousinho a concrete offer but they are still in talks and this is a move that the Lions would like to pull off, if only to damage a team they could end up fighting against in a relegation battle next season.
For Mousinho, a move to Millwall may be tempting as it would see him return to his home city of London. He started his career in West London with Brentford and a chance to return to a city that he is very familiar with could be a good bargaining tool for Millwall.
