Aston Villa to go in for Wolfsburg winger after missing out in January

Aston Villa are set to go in again for Wolfsburg’s Anton Donkor after they missed out in the January transfer window according to a report from the Birmingham Mail.

Villa had tried to sign the 19-year-old winger back in January but they ended up being beaten to his signature by Everton who were able to sign him on loan until the end of the season. However he never got the chance to impress on Merseyside as he suffered an ankle injury, forcing him to return to Germany so he could undergo rehab for the knock.

But now that he is free to move again because it is the summer and the injury has healed up, Villa re looking to reignite their interest in the starlet. It did seem like Everton would be leading the race to sign Donkor because of already having him on loan and not getting to see enough of him but they are currently undecided on what to do, meaning Villa have a chance to nip in and sign him from under their noses.

Everton had seen Donkor as one for the future and before his return to Wolfsburg they could have signed him permanent for a fee of £1.5m. It is not known what kind of deal Villa will be looking for should they make a move to sign him but it is likely that he will get more chances in the first team at Villa Park as he had only played for the developmental team at Everton before coming down with an injury.
