Retained List: Luton release five following play-off semi-final defeat

Sky Bet League Two side Luton Town have today confirmed that five squad players have been released on their initial retained list. They went down to a late Blackpool goal to see them miss out in the end of season lottery, and Nathan Jones has quickly made some contract decisions.

In addition to those five being shown the door by Jones, Luton have offered two more contract extensions and taken up an option to keep another on the books at Kenilworth Road too. The club are very much looking to the future now, looking to build on what has been largely a very good campaign for the Hatters.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is that midfielder Stephen O’Donnell has been allowed to leave the club. He started 27 league matches over the course of the season, meaning he played 39 times altogether over the last footballing year. This brings to an end a two-year stay. Danny Green and Craig Mackail-Smith also seek pastures new, in addition to Liam Gooch and Zane Banton.

Dan Potts is very much in Jones; plans and the defender has been offered fresh terms to extend his stay. The same can be said of cover goalkeeper Craig King, who too has been handy a contract to sign should he wish to do so. Finally, young Frankie Musonda will be staying after the club took up an existing option to keep him on for another year. Youth team captain Kavan Cotter has been offered professional terms too.

Released: Stephen O’Donnell, Danny Green, Craig Mackail-Smith, Zane Banton & Liam Gooch.

Offered extensions: Craig King & Dan Potts.

One-year option taken: Frankie Musonda.

Professional contract offered: Kavan Cotter.
