Retained List: Michael Brown makes big Port Vale squad decisions

Port Vale, who were relegated from Sky Bet League One, have been busy making preparations for life back in Sky Bet League Two. Following many discussions with players, manager Michael Brown can reveal his retained list.

It is quite a lengthy list and many players are still awaiting further talks with the many before either extending or leaving the club. Port Vale have managed to tie some players down to new contracts, but some out of contract players have been let go. Also, there have been some who were under contract, but have been allowed to go early following a mutual agreement.

A handful of players were already under contract anyway, so it was a case of Brown giving them some company ahead of next season. He’ll be pleased to see that Ryan Boot, James Gibbons, Billy Reeves and Danny Pugh have already accepted contract offers to stay on the books at Vale Park for another season at least. Sam Foley is another to have been offered an extension but appears to be exploring his options before agreeing to an extension.

Interestingly, there are some names on the retained list which fits under the category of being out of contract, but the manager is in contact with them. This essentially means some form of discussions are ongoing, or the club are just waiting to commence some kind of formal talks. Andre Bikey, Chris Eagles, Ben Purkiss, Gezim Shalaj, Ryan Taylor and Adam Yates are all in this boat together.

Now focusing on those to be released, or mutually released….there is a lot of them! Sebastien Amoros, JJ Hooper, Ryan Lloyd, Harry Pickering, Quentin Pereira, Remi Streete and Scott Tanser are all of the players aged under 24 that won’t be on the books next season. Added to that list are Riginio Cicilia, Sam Johnson, Sam Kelly, Deniz Mehmet, Francisc Rosa and Jerome Thomas.
