Burton Albion winger pens one-year contract extension

Burton Albion wide-man Lloyd Dyer has signed a one-year contract extension at the Pirelli Stadium. The 34-year-old made 44 appearances last season as the Brewers memorably secured their status in the Sky Bet Championship after finishing with 52 points.

Dyer, who often played in a wing back role under boss Nigel Clough in the last campaign, hailed the ‘great team spirit’ and ‘great ability’ within the squad as reasons for them maintaining their status in the league last season. He is already looking forward to seeing what the club can achieve in the future.

Although 34, Dyer is showing no signs of slowing up and losing some of that electric pace that he possesses when venturing down that left side. He expressed his delight at extending his deal, saying how last season was exciting on a personal level,

“I thoroughly enjoyed it last year. When I signed, everyone said we were going to get relegated but we didn’t and that was a massive achievement for us.

“I never thought we would get relegated. We have a great team spirit and that was what got us through. We also have great ability in the squad and people have underestimated us.

“It was a good season for the club and when I checked I found out that I had equalled the most goals I have scored in the Championship so overall it has been a good season for me as well.”

Boyhood Aston Villa fan Dyer also focused on his strike against them in April as a particularly personal highlight of his,

“Growing up I was a Villa fan so when I scored that goal it was a nice feeling.”
