Villa new boy must step up to the challenge in striker’s absence

Aston Villa new boy Scott Hogan must rise to the challenge of finding the back of the net on a more regular basis in the absence of teammate Jonathan Kodjia.

The 25-year-old Irlam born striker joined Villa from the club’s Sky Bet Championship rivals Brentford in January and the player signed a four-and-a-half year deal at Villa Park.

The former non league hotshot bagged 21 goals in just 36 appearances for Brentford however the player has netted just once in 13 outings for new club Villa.

The Birmingham Mail has recently reported that Hogan’s strike partner Jonathan Kodjia will miss the start of next season with a broken ankle and with the Ivorian having finished the 2016/2017 campaign as Villa’s top scorer, the player’s absence will leave a huge void to fill.

Kodjia’s time on the sidelines will mean that fellow frontman Hogan will need to step up to the challenge at Villa Park and after averaging more than a goal every other game for previous clubs Rochdale and Brentford, the striker must now prove that he was what it takes to deal with the pressure of playing for a big club like Villa.

The Sky Bet Championship club finished the season in 13th place in the table despite starting the campaign as one of the early favourites for promotion and Villa will again be fancied for a Premier League return next season.
