Wigan Athletic are in the process of interviewing candidates to take over for the 2017/18 League One season. Sky Bet have three favourites to seize the Latics’ managerial reigns next season.
In the 2015/16 season, Wigan Athletic finished top of Sky Bet League One, accumulating a total of 87 points, Will Grigg’s on Fire becoming a football cult hit, and bouncing back at the first time of asking after being relegated in the 2014/15 season.
However, their first season returning to the second tier of the English Football League pyramid ended in a yo-yo relegation back to the third tier.
After Gary Caldwell led the Tics to the Championship as champions of League One he did not have an impressive start to the campaign, and eventually failure to pick up points forced the board to sack Caldwell.
Senior management then proceeded to replace their former manager, with Manchester United U23 manager, Warren Joyce, who was sacked after just a four months tenure at the DW Stadium. Graham Barrow is now caretaker and interim manager until the board locates their ideal candidate to return Wigan to the Sky Bet Championship next season.
We’ve collected the top three candidates who are likely to take over according to Sky Bet.
