Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 15th: Darren Ferguson (Doncaster Rovers)

Doncaster Rovers head coach Darren Ferguson has been voted by you as the 15th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Ferguson is the 16th best manager in the Football League.

He’s a well-known name in the footballing world, mainly down to his father, but Darren Ferguson is making a name for himself at Doncaster Rovers. He’s carried Rovers straight back to Sky Bet League One, following their relegation in the 2015/16 season. They missed out on the title on the final day, but automatic promotion was the aim, and Ferguson certainly delivered. He’s got a good track record when it comes to getting teams promoted. Prior to getting his job at Doncaster, he had two separate stints at Peterborough United. During his time at the club, he helped them to three promotions, one from League Two, and two from League One. He did however suffer relegation from the Championship two times at the Posh. He also won the Johnstone Paints Trophy during his time at London Road.
Darren Ferguson was given the PFA Sky Bet League Two manager of the year when the awards were given out in May. He was also voted as the PFA English Football League manager of the year for leading Doncaster Rovers back to League One.
Now, the job for Ferguson junior is to cement Doncaster as a League One team again. He’s certainly got the resources, and if he’s able to keep hold of the majority of his players, his job should be relatively easy.
