Championship Weekend Preview

Reading v Burnley

When it comes down to the wire there is no side in the Championship you would want to face less than Sean Dyche’s Burnley. The Royals need a win to secure there place in the top six and with there recent indifferent form it is going to be a nervy afternoon at the Madejski.

Jobi+Mcanuff+RTmmgM0xnzImReading have only got themselves to blame for not having 6th wrapped up well before the final day. They picked up back-to-back victories in their last 2 games for the first time since the start of February and a winless run at home of 7 games opened the door for Brighton and the chasing pack. The win at Doncaster last weekend optimised their season. Trailing at the interval they came out in the second half a changed side and looked like world beaters as they netted 3 times to secure what on the face of it should have been a routine win. With Pavel Pogrebnyak and Adam Le Fondre up front the key for the Royals is the service that the two marksman get. Jobi McAnuff has led by example recently and the wide man will be crucial again. He is this game’s key man.

You could forgive Burnley for taking their foot of the gas as after a long hard season, with one of the smallest squads in the division they secured their promotion to the Premier League on Easter Monday. However, that is far from Sean Dyche’s mantra and last weeks dogged 1-0 victory over Ipswich showed this to everyone in attendance. Expect the final game of the season to be no different as the Clarets look to close out the season with their 4th win in a row and 27th of the season. It is going to be an interesting summer for Burnley as interest grows over goalscorer Danny Ings and they look to build a squad capable of Premier League survival. The core is there just some fine tuning the likely requirement.
