Aston Villa striker suffers major injury blow

Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia will be out of action for at least four months after undergoing surgery on a broken ankle sustained in the 1-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 27-year-old Ivorian goal machine has enjoyed a hugely impressive first season at Villa Park in which he has netted 19 goals in just 36 appearances for the club.

The injury comes as a bitter blow to both Villa and the player with Kodjia now set to miss both the club’s pre-season programme and the first month of the new Sky Bet Championship season.

Mid-table Villa have scored just 46 league goals in 45 matches so far this season and with 19 of those goals coming from striker Kodjia, the club have been dependant upon the good form of the Ivorian ace.

Kodjia started his career in France with Reims and Angers SCO before moving to England to join Bristol City in summer 2015 in a deal reportedly worth around £2 million. The striker enjoyed a successful first season in the English game with the player netting 20 goals in 48 appearances for The Robins.

In August, Kodjia joined current club Aston Villa in an £11 million deal which could yet rise to £15 million and the striker has already started to justify that hefty price tag with a superb goalscoring return and his injury will mean that he is sorely missed by Villa.
