Aston Villa boss Bruce hoping to bring in Hull City goalkeeper

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is hoping to bring Hull City goalkeeper Allan McGregor to the club this summer, according to Wales Online.

McGregor, 35, is currently on loan at Championship side Cardiff City and has made 18 appearances altogether for the Bluebirds this season.  However, it doesn’t seem likely that the goalkeeper will join Cardiff again next season.  Cardiff manager Neil Warnock said: “I could have four keepers on Allan’s wages! I can’t blame him, he’s in the Premier League, but it’s looking very unlikely. We’d not be able to.”

McGregor was Hull City’s first-choice goalkeeper under Steve Bruce last season but has slipped down the pecking order since their promotion to the Premier League.  Hull goalkeeper David Marshall started the season with Cardiff City but signed for Hull and began the season as Hull’s first-choice.  However, he is now behind Eldin Jakupovic, who has started the last 13 games in a row.

This means that McGregor is third-choice goalkeeper for Hull and is likely to leave the club this summer.  Aston Villa are seen as a likely destination for McGregor this summer, where he could link up with former boss Steve Bruce once again.  The goalkeeper made 44 Championship appearances under Bruce last season as the club were promoted to the Premier League.
