Leeds’ Key Man Nominated For Championship Player Of The Year

Leeds United’s star striker Chris Wood has been nominated for the Championship Player of the Season, after an impressive season which has seen the Kiwi score 24 league goals; with eight games still remaining in the campaign.

Wood is one of three players shortlisted for the award, alongside Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle and Brighton and Hove Albion’s Anthony Knockaert. United’s number nine is currently the Championship’s top goalscorer, with Newcastle’s Gayle three goals behind in second place on 21 goals. Brighton’s Knockaert has also had an impressive term too, scoring thirteen goals and assisting seven times in 37 appearances from midfield.

Wood has scored 24 times so far this season, which has smashed his previous personal record. As a result, the 25 year old has picked up six Man of the Match awards in the league this term, as well as receiving the Championship’s Player of the Month award for January, scoring six goals in four games- including a brace against Yorkshire rivals Rotherham in a 3-0 win.

Chris has been an influential part of Leeds’ success this season and has contributed 46% of the clubs 52 league goals this season. This has also been rewarded by the league, after being included in the Championship’s Team of the Season, alongside fellow Leeds fan favourite Pontus Jansson, which was announced last week. Unsurprisingly, Knockaert and Gayle were also included in the side- who battle Wood for the Player of the Year award, which will be held in London on Saturday 9th April.

With all three players having very impressive campaigns, helping their respected teams to great success so far this season, if Wood was to win the award it would be a great achievement for him, with his other two competitors being two of the best in the whole league proving to be tough competition for the award.
