The Championship Relegation Dogfight

24th – Yeovil Town

Yeovil_Town_FC_logo.svgBottom club Yeovil Town are languishing five points off safety, and with four games remaining, time is running out for Gary Johnson to rally his troops and pull of a great escape. When a club is battling against the elements, the main ingredient they need is togetherness; everyone pulling in the same direction and giving every last ounce of blood, sweat and tears for the cause. However, togetherness has deserted the men from Huish Park in recent times, as their quest for survival was dealt a huge blow, after top scorer Ishmael Miller fell out with manager Gary Johnson, after the popular boss’ team talk following the crushing 4-1 home defeat by Barnsley. Due to this, Johnson vowed that Miller wouldn’t play for the club again, and so far the hugely popular boss has stuck to his word.

Since then, Town have picked up four points from three games: a 2-1 win at Blackpool preceded at 3-2 defeat at Charlton, before Yeovil held local rivals Bournemouth to a 1-1 draw at Huish Park. Although the Glovers have grinded out eye-catching draws at Leicester and Wigan, they have only managed to pick up two wins from their last ten Championship encounters, so the Green Army look to be staring relegation in the face, although their last four games are mostly against teams who have little to play for in terms of promotion and relegation. And who knows? Maybe this factor could help Yeovil cause a shock and survive. Stranger things have happened.
