4 things we learned about League 2 this weekend

Morecambe’s result could be crucial

Jim BentleyWith the season drawing to a close and the importance of every point getting greater, Morecambe’s shock 2-2 away draw against Fleetwood could be one of the most important results of their season. After falling behind, the Shrimps showed great character to get it back to 1-1 after a Mark Hughes header and even took the lead following a Nathan Pond own goal. The timing of Iain Hume’s equaliser (85th minute) will have been disappointing but the result itself is a very promising one for Morecambe particularly as they now face one of the toughest run-ins in the league – they still have to play Scunthorpe, Hartlepool, Wimbledon and Bury. The club are only three points clear of the relegation zone but their result this weekend has ensured that they have their Football League status as theirs to lose.
