Steve Bruce insists new transfers will pay off eventually

Aston Villa head coach Steve Bruce has insisted to the Birmingham Mail that his January transfer window signings will come good eventually.

After initially changing the club’s fortunes around after his appointment as head coach, Bruce has suffered plenty of criticism in recent weeks as they have lost eight games in a row. This was capped off last night when they lost 3-1 to Barnsley at home, a result which saw them drop to 16th in the Sky Bet Championship.

And now Bruce has admitted that the poor run of form may be down to the many transfers he made during the January transfer window. He signed seven players and sold the same amount in a massive overhaul, and Bruce realises it may take some for them to adjust to his tactics and get used to playing in his system. However he believes that in the long run, Aston Villa will be better when the signings are settled in.

He said: “For the sake of the club I thought it was the right thing to do,”

“I know for the sake of the club it will make us better.”

“We’ve got two full-backs waiting in the wings (Taylor and Bree) who will make us better.”

“They will bring competition for Hutton and Amavi.”

“There’s been big change for far too long.

“You need to stick your chest out and see it through.

“Now we show our balls.”

Aston Villa will get a chance to show their balls when they face Newcastle United on Saturday.
