Pompey join Addicks in race for non league star

Sky Bet League Two outfit Portsmouth are understood to be watching Dorking Wanderers wide man Matt Briggs according to The Surrey Mirror.

The 20-year-old has lit up the Ryman League Division One South this season with his pace and trickery and Wanderers are expecting the player to leave the club this month for a five-figure transfer fee.

It has been reported that English Football League club Charlton Athletic have been watching the player in recent weeks and are weighing up a move for the talented youngster and it is now believed that The Addicks will face competition for the winger’s signature from Sky Bet League Two promotion hopefuls Portsmouth.

Briggs is quickly becoming one of non league football’s most wanted young stars and the likes of Crystal Palace, Stoke City, QPR, Millwall and Ipswich Town have all watched the player in action over the past few months although no transfer offers are believed to have been submitted for the midfielder to date.

The Tyneside born youngster is a product of the famous Wallsend Boys Club but the player failed to impress during a trial with Blackburn Rovers and as an apprentice with Burnley before featuring for non league clubs Gateshead and Dunston UTS. Briggs signed for current club Dorking Wanderers in September 2015 and the youngster has gone from strength to strength during his time at the Westhumble Community Ground.
