Ipswich Town bring in Leeds United Midfielder on loan

Today it was confirmed by Ipswich Town that the Tractor Boys have loaned in Leeds midfielder Toumani Diagouraga for the rest of the season in an attempt to heave them up the Championship table.

Having started out at Watford, Toumani failed to make an impact in such a high league as well as with loan spells at the likes of Swindon and Rotherham so early on in his career, he found his feet in his third loan at Hereford United before they dissolved.

He fit in so much so that upon his release from the Hornets he made the switch to Hereford on a three-year deal. He made the switch to Peterborough before then moving on to Brentford, where he spent the bulk of his career.

Almost a whole year since Leeds brought him in on a two-and-a half-year deal from Brentford, where he spent six years of his career first on loan and then permanently. Here he accumulated 210 appearences, and was also loaned out to Portsmouth during that spell.

Given Leeds’ success this season with them sitting in fourth place, Diagouraga has only appeared in one fixture this season. This has led to him seeking game time elsewhere at the age of 29 now, with Portman Road the preferred destination. Ipswich haven’t enjoyed the most entertaining of seasons but will be hoping Diagouraga can help improve it.

Diagouraga, who still has 18 months left on his current Leeds deal, is seen by Town manager Mick McCarthy as a powerful presence who will give Ipswich that steel in midfield, as well as a threat going forward.
