One of the greatest FA cup fairy tales of the modern era saw Premier League giants Newcastle crash out of the FA cup in the third round to League Two minnows Stevange. It was revenge for Stevenage’s controversial exit to the Toon Army in an FA cup fourth round replay in 1998. The game was goalless at half time but a great second half saw Stevenage run out 3-1 winners in this David and Goliath encounter at the Lamex stadium. An own goal from Mark Williamson and a strike by Michael Bostwick put Boro 2-0 up early in the second half, Check Tiote was sent off for Newcastle before Joey Barton scored a late goal in injury  time to set up a potential nervy last few minutes for the home side. However, this wasn’t the case as Stevenage scored again with the last kick off the match as Winn put the icing on the cake of a great cup upset. It was met with great celebrations from the Stevenage faithful who celebrated with a pitch invasion to mark arguably the most famous win in their history.
