Norwich City join Leeds United in battle to sign Bradford City defender

Norwich City are to join Leeds United in the battle to sign Bradford City’s James Meredith according to a report from Four Four Two.

The 28-year-old defender has been a favourite at Valley Parade ever since he signed for them from York City, with his performances this season being a particular highlight as he helped Bradford get to 4th place in Sky Bet League One. However his time with the club could be coming to an end very soon.

His current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and with Meredith’s performances being as good as they are, he is starting to believe he could make the jump up to the Sky Bet Championship. Bradford however don’t want to lose one of their star players on a free transfer and are becoming more willing to sell him during this transfer window to make sure they get some money at least for a key asset.

The first team to be interested were Leeds, who could have stoked up their rivalry with Bradford by snatching him up. With the fear that they will lose Charlie Taylor either this transfer window or in the summer due to his own contract situation, they have been looking for potential replacements and Meredith could be that man.

However they will face competition as Norwich have now entered the race to sign the full back. The Canaries are looking to improve their defence as they look to get back into the promotion race and as Bradford would be more willing to sell to a team that isn’t a fierce rival.
