Norwich City make £1.5m bid for Barnsley defender

Norwich City have made a £1.5m bid for Barnsley’s Angus MacDonald according to a report from Guardian journalist Ed Aarons.

The Canaries had a bright start to the season following their relegation from the Premier League but recently their form has dipped and they dropped out of the Sky Bet Championship play-off spots. They are currently 11th in the table and this has led to their head coach Alex Neil being under a lot of pressure, but the club’s ownership has recently come out and said that his job is safe for now.

But Neil knows if things don’t turn around soon he could find himself being handed his P45, so he is planning to add some recruits to his squad during this January transfer window to get their promotion bid back on track. And as he aims to improve their defence, he is planning a raid on Barnsley and have made a bid worth £1.5m for their defender MacDonald.

The Tykes have surprised everyone this season as they have actually been challenging for a play-off spot following their promotion from Sky Bet League One. However their best players have been rumoured to be leaving all January with Sam Winnall already departing and joining their rivals Sheffield Wednesday while it seems like Conor Hourihane and James Bree could also be heading out of the door in the coming weeks. But now MacDonald may be joining them as he has been the subject of a serious bid, though Barnsley will want to keep one of their key players, especially if others are leaving.
