Canaries Defender Joins Premier League Strugglers

Norwich City fullback Martin Olsson has penned a two-and-a-half year deal at Swansea, after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee for the Swedish international.

The 28 year old has become Paul Clement’s second signing as the Swan’s manager, after winger Luciano Narsingh was recruited from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

His arrival comes at a desperate time for the Welsh club. As well as propping up the table, preferred left-back Neil Taylor has just been sidelined for three weeks with a broken cheekbone.

Olsson has been a regular in Alex Neil’s starting XI so far this campaign, featuring no fewer than 19 times for an underachieving Canaries side.

The Swede also boasts a wealth of top tier experience. He registered over 100 appearances in the Premier League for both Norwich and Blackburn Rovers, where he made his senior debut in the 2007-08 season.

Olsson has spent three and a half seasons at Carrow Road, after arriving from Blackburn in the summer of 2013. In total, the Hogaborg product netted three times in a Norwich shirt, and featured on 122 occasions.

His departure means that that the East Anglians are currently deprived of a recognised left-back, which may prompt Neil to recall hotly tipped youngster Harry Toffolo.

The former England youth international has been enjoying a loan spell at Scunthorpe, registering 12 appearances for the League One outfit.

Although he is yet to make his senior bow for Norwich, the 21 year old’s services could be required if the Carrow Road club fail to bring in a replacement in the left-back berth.
