Canaries join race for Barnsley star

Norwich City manager Alex Neil is eyeing a move for Barnsley midfielder Conor Hourihane according to The Pink Un.

The 25-year-old Irishman is already attracting the attention of The Canaries’ Sky Bet Championship rivals Aston Vila and Sheffield Wednesday after a string of good performances for The Tykes.

Improving Villa are thought to have submitted at least one bid for the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international and it has now been reported that Norwich City are set to join the race for the player with the club looking to get their push for promotion back on track after a shaky few weeks.

Hourihane started his career in the academy system at Premier League club Sunderland although the player never made a first team appearance for The Black Cats. The midfielder moved to Ipswich Town in 2010 but again failed to feature at First Team level.

The player finally made his English Football League debut after joining Plymouth Argyle and Hourihane went on to make 142 appearances for The Pilgrims scoring 16 goals in three seasons with the club.

In summer 2014, Barnsley signed Hourihane for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £250,000 and the midfielder has gone on to star for The Tykes helping the club to an EFL Trophy and Sky Bet League One Play Off Final double success last season.

Hourihane has adapted well to the Sky Bet Championship this season and could now be set to leave Oakwell in a bid to further his career.
