Brentford place bid for Norwich winger

Brentford have placed a bid for Norwich City midfielder Sergi Canos, according to Sky Sports sources.

The youngster joined the Canaries for a £2.5 million fee from Liverpool, which could rise as high as £4.5 million. However, Canos has managed just five appearances for Norwich with his last coming in October’s EFL Cup fixture with Leeds United. The Spaniard bagged two goals in a 6-1 victory over League One Coventry City in August.

It is now reported that Canos is the subject of a £1.5 million bid from Brentford, which would be an instant loss of money for Norwich City if they are to accept. The Spain U19 international enjoyed a loan spell at Griffin Park last season where he made a huge 39 appearances for the Bees. He also scored seven goals, including a winner at the Madejski Stadium in a 2-1 victory over Reading.

The 19-year-old, who spent time in the Barcelona academy in his younger years, made a Premier League appearance for Liverpool against West Bromwich Albion last term.

Brentford are currently 14th in the Championship but, with a strong second-half to the season, could still reach the play-offs. Dean Smith’s side are nine points adrift of Sheffield Wednesday and the signing of Canos would give the Bees a boost. The tricky Spanish winger would certainly contribute to Brentford’s goal tally of 32 goals in 25 games.

Brentford’s next fixture is hosting promotion candidates Newcastle United in a tough encounter. The Magpies are second in the Championship and two points behind league-leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.
