4 things learned about the Championship this weekend

Time for Bournemouth to dream

Bkie1w8IYAAlf-AAFC Bournemouth is a football club that does not like to have a mid-table season. Since the ’06-’07 season the Cherries have been involved in a race to avoid relegation, make the play offs or even promotion in all bar one campaign (’11-’12 finishing 11th in League 1). Their first season in the second tier since 1990 is set to end no differently, but when many thought Bournemouth would be fighting against relegation, they are instead chasing a play off dream. Only the very few optimists amongst the Dorset club’s fan base would have predicted a top 10 finish, none would have honestly said the top six. It remains against the odds, however a 2-1 win over Q.P.R. in front of a sold out crowd gave the fans that have felt all emotions from relegations and fears of liquidation to promotion and the return of Eddie Howe, something to fantasise about. The form guide goes out the window in the Championship, but to see Bournemouth sit top of it above the league’s top two is something to savour. I still do not expect Bournemouth to even break the top 8, although, I will say, that if it does happen I will be a very happy man.
