Championship goalkeeper remains with club despite rumours over his exit

The Nottingham Post can confirm that Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic still remains with the club and has not signed for Serbian giants Partizan Belgrade. Rumours had circulated that the 33-year-old keeper left the club after he was dropped for their Championship defeat to Barnsley on Monday.

Despite such reports that he has left the club, he is expected to be back in their squad this weekend for their Emirates FA Cup against Championship rivals Wigan Athletic. He is however expected to be on the bench as he has headed back home to Belgrade this week for ‘family reasons’.

After he was arguably at fault for two, certainly one, of the three goals conceded in the defeat to Newcastle United, Philippe Montanier, a former goalkeeper himself, elected to recall Stephen Henderson between the sticks. He was beaten by a long range Conor Hourihane strike, with the former Charlton stopper coming out after the game admitting it was a shot he should’ve saved.

Since signing in August, Stojkovic has made 20 appearances for the club, failing to keep a single clean sheet whenever he has taken to the field. He also played for the Serbian national side in their qualification clash against Wales in November, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Montanier, who is coming under big pressure after a poor run of form, admitted that he decided to change goalkeepers versus the Tykes for ‘tactical reasons’. He also stated that the plan was to always recall Henderson for the cup tie against Wigan.
