League One Player of the Month nominations announced

The League One Player of the Month nominations for December have this morning been announced.

Gwion Edwards – Peterborough United

Welshman Gwion Edwards signed for Peterborough from Crawley Town over the Summer and he’s enjoyed a good first season for the Posh so far. The winger capped off his successful 2016 with some dazzling performances in December, scoring a stunning 25 yard goal against Chesterfield, along with a 50 yard run and finish against Charlton.

Matty Lund – Rochdale

Lund has played a key role for Rochdale this season, limiting the attacking threat of opposition teams they come up against. The midfielder started every game for his club in the last month and capped off a successful December with a hat-trick against Northampton Town.

Matty Taylor – Bristol Rovers

The Gas’ main frontman was hot property over the Summer but chose to stay put and signed a new contract with the club. This has paid off for Bristol Rovers. The striker scored three goals for Rovers in December, meaning he finished 2016 with an impressive 29 goals in 44 games.

David Wheater – Bolton Wanderers

Experienced central defender Wheater has played his trade in three of England’s four divisions and this experience has been vital in Bolton only conceeding 15 goals in 24 league games so far this term. Wheater also chipped in with two goals himself at the other end of the pitch last month, scoring both in Bolton’s 2-1 win against Shrewsbury.

The winner of the award will be announced this Friday.
