Barnet: Bees buzzing with Akinola signing

Sky Bet League Two side Barnet have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Simon Akinola.

The Bees currently sit 10th in the League but only three points behind Cambridge United, who occupy the final play-off spot.

The 24-year-old makes the step-up to Barnet after signing for £40,000 from Vanarama National League side Braintree Town.

Akinola is a versatile player, being able to play on the left of midfield or as a striker, and scored five times in 24 appearances for the Iron this season.

The former Boreham Wood player also appeared for Harrow Borough but will link up with the Bees ahead of the January transfer window.

The attacker has scored 19 times in 100 appearances for the Essex non-league and his direct and speedy style saw him included as one of Sky Sports’ Six Non-League Players to Watch earlier this season.

Akinola makes the move to Barnet as their fourth signing ahead of the 2017 January transfer window opening with Dan Sweeney, David Tutonda and Ricardo Almeida Santos already signed.

22-year-old Sweeney played 25 league games at Maidstone and counts AFC Wimbledon as one of his former sides.

The deal to bring Santos to the Hive from Peterborough United is for £100,000 whilst the Bees have also brought in defender Tutonda from Cardiff CIty on a two-year deal.

Santos joins the Bees on an undisclosed-length deal but drops down one league after making 75 appearances for Peterborough in the Sky Bet League One.

Tutonda failed to make a senior appearance for the Bluebirds but spent time on-loan at Newport and York where he impressed thoroughly.
