Championship Manager of the Month nominations

Nigel Pearson – Leicester City

Pearson’s Foxes have recovered superbly from their excruciating play-off exit at Vicarage Road last May, and they are now sitting pretty, seven points clear at the summit of the Sky Bet Championship. Leicester require just eight points from their remaining seven matches, so it looks as though Pearson will be a Premiership manager next season.

Leicester-v-Derby-Nigel-Pearson_2916317City haven’t lost a league match since the turn of the year, and they managed to continue in that rich vein of form throughout March. Two 3-0 wins on the trot against strugglers Charlton Athletic and Barnsley were followed by a comeback victory against free-falling Blackpool. The Foxes earned a creditable point at Blackburn, before they had to rely on a last minute Chris Wood (Kasper Schmeichel) goal to grind out a point against Yeovil at the King Power Stadium. Next up for Pearson’s side was a daunting trip to high-flying Burnley, but they came through that test unscathed, recording a 2-0 victory at Turf Moor. April began with City earning a great point against in-form Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium, which put them 16 points clear of third place.

It would take a monumental catastrophe for Leicester to not gain promotion this term, and their run-in doesn’t look incredibly difficult either. This season should put to bed any hard feelings that remain from that dramatic defeat in Hertfordshire.
