Championship stats: final fifteen minute records

The final fifteen minutes of matches are the most interesting. It can potentially make, break or even completely bore the outcome of matches.

For some sets of fans, however, the closing stages are a lot more nerve-wracking than they are for others.

Sadly, for Cardiff City fans, it is them that holds the record for the most goals conceded inside the final quarter of an hour than any other team in the Championship this season.

Their record of 12 conceded just beats Barnsley to the post, who themselves have conceded 11 goals in the closing period of games. Paul Heckingbottom’s side, however, have mustered 10 goals in response, making them the most exciting side for late drama in the entire division.

Recently relegated Norwich City sit the third from bottom and the poor recent form from the canaries has piled the pressure on their manager, Alex Neil.

QPR, now managed by Ian Holloway, have the other unwanted record – of the least amount of goals scored from the 75th minute onwards. They have only four to their name up to now.

At the other end of the spectrum, however, sit second-placed Brighton.

Chris Hughton’s side have scored a thumping 13 times in this period of play and have only conceded twice in response.

Their closest challengers are both leaders, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. The two former Premier League sides have scored 11 goals a piece respectively and rank just above Brentford and previously mentioned Barnsley (both 10) respectively.

Birmingham City, come just behind the two mentioned above, with nine. Whilst Ipswich Town and Fulham come just behind, with eight.
