The EFL have revealed on their official website that Newcastle United have sold the most season tickets in the Sky Bet Championship.
In order to show the popularity of the Football League, the EFL have been released statistics about how many season tickets have been sold across the league. The big news is that for the first time ever, they have sold over 500,000 season tickets over the three leagues.
Unsurprisingly, it is the Championship which has sold the most season tickets as the EFL say that 326,000 were sold for this season. The EFL were also keen to say how good value season tickets are, with them saying that they cost £355 on average.
But most interesting is the top ten ranking of the teams which have sold the most season tickets and it is no surprise to see Newcastle at the top. While no statistics have been released for individual clubs, Newcastle are able to sell more season tickets simply because of the size of their stadium St James Park and it is highly likely they have sold more season tickets than some stadiums’ capacity in the Championship.
Following Newcastle in 2nd place is Derby County whose fans were obviously not disheartened by their play-off disappointment and in 3rd was Brighton and Hove Albion with their fanbase continuing to increase since their move to the AMEX Stadium. In 4th was the recently relegated Norwich City and in 5th are the play-off final losers Sheffield Wednesday.
Another recently relegated side Aston Villa are in 6th place while Huddersfield Town’s cheap season ticket scheme has been a success as it has got them to 7th place. Wolves fans returned to Molineux in their droves following their exciting takeover which took them to 8th place while Leeds United fans continued to be loyal and are 9th. In 10th are Bristol City whose fans will be loving the performances of Tammy Abraham this season.
