Aston Villa: out of favour defender attracting interest from Turkey

Out of favour Aston Villa defender Micah Richards is attracting interest from Turkish side Trabzonspor who are eying a move to take the player to their club during the January transfer window according to a report in the Daily Mirror.

The defender who joined the club during the summer of 2015 on a free transfer from Manchester City is said to be going to be made available for transfer during the winter window.

Richards has had a turbulent time at Villa Park since arriving at the club and was one who took plenty of stick from the fans for some lacklustre displays during last seasons relegation from the Premier League.

The defender is currently out injured for the Midlands after sustaining a knee injury that he is yet to recover from during the club’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in October.

Richards found opportunities to break into the first team prior to his injury making just three appearances one of which was in a defeat to League Two side Luton Town in the EFL Cup earlier in the season.

It is thought that Richards was available for transfer during the summer but no offers were forthcoming, but it now appears that Trabzonspor are ready to give the player the chance to resurrect his career.

Should Richards leave the club during the January transfer window it will free up some money for manager Steve Bruce to strengthen his squad for the possibility of a run towards making the playoff places during the second half of the season.
