Villa plot January move for creative Championship midfielder

The Sun reports that Steve Bruce is hoping to bolster his Aston Villa squad in January with the signing of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Beram Kayal. He tried to sign the Israeli international during his time as manager of Hull City last season.

The 28-year-olds contract at the Amex Stadium runs out at the end of this season. He is currently out of action through injury, but Bruce remains hopeful of luring the player to Villa Park to become a part of his resurgent squad. He remains an important player at Brighton however, so it depends if the player is willing to extend his deal with the Seagulls.

Kayal made the move to Brighton from Scottish giants Celtic in 2015. He has since gone on to make 72 appearances for the club, playing a major part in their run to the Championship play-offs last season.

With his contract soon to expire, Villa could look to snap the player up for a reduced price in January. There is of course the chance that Brighton may be prepared to keep the player until the end of the season, and risk losing him for free should he fail to willingly negotiate an extension. He is an important player for Brighton, especially as the future of Dale Stephens has been somewhat up for debate in recent times as well.
