Aston Villa boss watching defensive duo

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is thought to be keeping a close eye on the Belgian footballing pyramid in a bid to strengthen his side’s defensive options in January according to the Birmingham Mail.

Bruce has received the financial backing of Villa owner Dr Tony Xia ahead of the upcoming transfer window and is expected to improve several areas of his squad.

It has been reported that Bruce has identified Belgian-based pair Francis N’Ganga and Laurent Jens as possible January signings.

Congolese international defender N’Ganga currently plays his football in the Belgian Pro League with Charleroi. The 31 year old left back is the club captain of The Zebras and the player has made 165 appearances for the club during his time at the Stade du Pays de Charleroi. N’Ganga could be available in a cut price deal with the player’s contract coming to an end in the summer.

Luxembourgian right back Jens also plays in the Belgian Pro League with Waasland-Beveren. The 24 year old has previously had a failed trial with Scottish Premiership club Dundee but Villa boss Bruce may have seen qualities in the player which he feels could be an asset to Aston Villa.

Villa are unbeaten in five matches under their new boss but they have only kept one clean sheet during that good run.
