Tottenham and Everton in race to sign £10m rated Bristol City defender

Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are set to battle it out to sign Bristol City’s Hordur Magnusson according to a report from HITC Sport.

The 23-year-old defender only joined the Robins this summer as they splashed out £2.5m to make sure he moved to Ashton Gate from Italian giants Juventus. And in addition to being involved in the Iceland squad at Euro 2016 which helped him to earn him his move to England, he has been brilliant for the West County side as they challenge for a play-off spot.

However this good form has been noticed by some of the top teams in the Premier League and both Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are interested in signing him in the upcoming January transfer window and are preparing to make approaches. This is in addition to at least four other teams in the top tier who have been scouting him over the last few weeks.

Tottenham in particular are interested as they look to change a few things during the January transfer window. Their head coach Mauricio Pochettino is looking to sell Kevin Wimmer and he is eyeing up Magnusson as a replacement. Everton are continuing to look for more defensive talent so they can properly replace John Stones who they sold in the summer to Manchester City.

However both will be forced to pay up as Bristol City’s financial situation means they will not be forced to sell. This report suggests that Bristol City will only consider accepting an offer for Magnusson if they get a bid of at least £10m. It’s currently unknown if either club will be willing to pay that for a player who’s only spent a few months in the EFL.
