Alex Neil refuses to be distracted by Garry Monk’s mind games

Norwich City head coach Alex Neil has told The Pink ‘Un that he refuses to be distracted by Leeds United manager Garry Monk’s pre-match comments.

The Canaries are set to take on Leeds tomorrow night in what is sure to be an entertaining EFL Cup match. Extra eyes will be on this match because the winner of the game will advance to the quarter finals meaning that the Sky Bet Championship will be represented in the final eight of this competition. Last season, three Championship teams made it this far with Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City all causing a shock but their run was ended at that stage.

And ahead of the game Monk, who played with Neil at Barnsley, has been keen to make sure all the pressure is on Norwich going into the match by labeling them as the favourites to win. But Neil has responded saying he won’t get distracted by this talk and will instead concentrate on making sure his team gets the win.

He said: “I played with Gaz so he’s probably just trying to apply more pressure for me, so that’s good,”

“But yeah, we’ve got a strong squad, we probably should be there or thereabouts at the top end of the table, I’m hoping and I’m expecting, and I’m pretty sure the players would be the same. But it’s not easy, it’s a hard league. You’ve seen Preston beat Huddersfield and then, obviously in a different manner, they beat us, so every game in the Championship is difficult.”
