Odemwingie to have medical at EFL club this week

The Bolton News reports that former West Bromwich Albion forward Peter Odemwingie is set to have a medical with Bolton Wanderers. The 35-year-old is due to train with the club this coming weekend, and a deal could be finalised prior to Monday’s clash against Bury.

The Nigerian does have experience of the EFL in the form of a loan spell at Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship last season. Whilst with Lee Johnson’s men, he scored two goals in seven appearances for the club. He has been a free agent since being released by Stoke City at the end of last season.

Odemwingie, who has also played for Cardiff City, did have a trial with Hull City during pre-season. He recently appeared in a Sky Sports documentary titled ‘Out of Contract’, which followed five players currently without a club in their quest to earn a contract.

The forward, who can play on either wing or as a striker, has scored over 30 Premier League goals, but is willing to play in League One for the first time in his career in search of football. Wages are not said to be an issue for Wanderers, who sit third in League One after a midweek victory over Millwall. With Odemwingie desperate to play, he is willing to drop his usual demands. He has been keeping himself fit in the off-season, despite being without a club, as he wanted to walk straight into a club fit and healthy if called upon.
