QPR boss Hasselbaink denies wrongdoing amid sweeping corruption allegations

Queens Park Rangers manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has firmly refuted allegations from the Daily Telegraph linking the Dutchman with a sweeping corruption scandal.

The Telegraph claim the former Burton Albion boss had struck a sizeable £55,000 deal with undercover reporters disguised as representatives of a fictitious far east firm, whom had offered Hasselbaink money in return for prioritising players the agency firm represented when discussing and negotiating transfer dealings.

Immediately following the claims being released publicly, QPR stated that a ‘thorough internal investigation’ would be conducted in regards to Hasselbaink’s conduct.

In a statement released on the official QPR club website, Hasselbaink rebuffed claims suggesting he had received money from the fake firm to assist their transfer dealings, instead insisting that a fee had been tabled asking the former Chelsea striker to give a speech in Singapore:

“They offered me a fee to make a speech in Singapore. I do not see anything unusual in being offered to be paid to make a speech. I did not make any promises in return” Hasselbaink said.

“I did not ask QPR to purchase any of the players who were said to be managed by Mr McGarvey and Ms Newell and did not and would not recommend the purchase of a player for my personal gain. I deny any accusations of wrongdoing on my part.”

Hasselbaink joins Barnsley assistant boss Tommy Wright and Leeds United chairman Massimo Cellino on a list of high-ranking footballing officials to be implicated by the Telegraph’s corruption investigation thus far.

The sweeping investigation by the Telegraph seeking to unearth corruption within football has also seen England boss Sam Allardyce ousted from the national team and the Football Association, after having been filmed engaging in discussions over a £400,000 deal with the same fictitious firm that met with Hasselbaink in west London.
