Norwich 3-1 Burton Albion – Match Report

Norwich City moved up to the top of The Championship following their 3-1 win over Burton Albion.

These two sides were playing two leagues apart last year and it was the former Premier League team that opened the scoring first.

Left-back, Martin Olsson opened the scoring when he was well picked out by Scotsman, Graham Dorrans in the box before lashing the ball into the roof of the net.

Cameron Jerome maybe should have doubled the lead before the break but could only find the side netting following a miss judgement from Burton keeper, Jon Mclaughlin.

Nigel Clough’s Brewers equalised shortly after the half-time break. Lucas Akins pounced on some poor defending from the Canaries before seeing his shot blocked but following some uncertainty in the box, the ball found its way back to the former Stevenage man and he made no mistake, this time, from close-range.

Alex Neil’s side hit back just a minute later. A one-two between Jacob Murphy and Cameron Jerome caused havoc in the Burton back line and Murphy’s deflected strike put the Canaries back in front.

Jamie Ward wasted the Brewers best opportunity of the second half. Some neat play by the former Derby County man saw him round McGovern but instead of laying the ball into the net, he chose to pass it straight to a yellow shirt.

Norwich sealed the win late in the 89th minute – through Daniel Ivo Pinto. The Portuguese player scored an impressive goal from a tight angle to register his first ever goal for The Canaries.
